In July of 2012, Sr. Theresa (Tess) Engel was hired as Director of Pastoral Care here at Blessed Sacrament Parish to respond to pastoral needs for parishioners per the request of a parishioner, their family, the parish pastor or parish secretary. Over the years this ministry evolved to include1) monthly visits/communion services for 30 to 40 parishioners unable to attend weekend Masses 2) brief weekly visits with lower grade students to give a message of loving God and others, 3) leading wake and burial services, 4) filling in for secretary, 5) greeting parishioners before and after weekend Masses. Since Fr. Mark became pastor last July, Sr. Tess was asked to add to her job description 1) serving as parish liaison for Blessed Sacrament Seniors Club, and
2) assisting Fr. Mark with new parish efforts.
Toward the end of 2017, Sr. Tess shared with Fr. Mark that she felt the need to cut back on some of the driving, required for the monthly home visits. The Spirit seemed to be directing all of this, as Fr. Mark was aware that a friend of his, Br. Jim Scarpace, SAC, a member of the Pallottine Fathers and Brothers (of the Mother of God Province located on Bluemound Road in Milwaukee), was interested in some part time ministry in pastoral care. After two months of traveling with Sr. Tess to get acquainted with parishioners on her home visits, Br. Jim was hired as of March 1st to be a Co-Director of Pastoral Care with Sr. Tess. To be a recipient of their ministry, a parishioner or a family member need only contact the parish office. Together as Co-Directors, Sr. Tess and Br. Jim will determine how best to respond.
